    Notes: A gelato cone that's
    sculped to look like a rose.

    Prepared with ingredients from Italy, Amorino aims to provide high quality gelato, also called Italian ice, and sorbets

    Gelato is Italy's variant of ice cream.  It's ingredients are similar to ice cream but differ in portions and preparation.  Ice cream is higher in fat and gelato is higher in sugar.  Gelato uses more whole milk than cream and churned at a slower speed to give it a denser less airy mixture.  Rather than being frozen in a continuous assembly line freezer, gelato is frozen very quickly in individual small batches in a batch freezer.  Gelato's low fat content means it can only hold its peak flavor for several days but the flavor is much more rich and intense than ice cream.

    Amorino's gelato was rich creamy texture, very sweet, and flavorful.  I could taste the amaretto flavor through the gelato.  The strawberry sorbet was very sweet, much more intense than the amaretto gelato.  The ice was very fine yet its texture looked like a very light ice cream.

    Amorino have as many as 24 flavors which can be ordered in 3 sizes of cones, 5 different cup sizes, or 550/1100mL take-out tubs.

    In keeping with their name and logo of cupid, Amorino shapes their gelato into the shape of a rose.  If you order different flavors they shape each flavor into a different petal.  The good part is that it looks really pretty and definitely wins points with the girl.  And, unlike most ice cream places I've been to, they don't charge more for flavors but just charge on quantity.

    I enjoyed the gelato and I really liked the idea of unlimited flavors and their gelato and sorbets were good.  But their prices are high compared to other gelato places nearby but about 1 EURO.  I recommend visiting Amorino if you're in the neighbourhood.  It's especially good on a hot summer day.

    that's really, really cool. unfortunately, there's none down here in l.a. great pictures in terms of angle and perspective. it makes your review look more credible and a bit professional.

    Gelato is something I really miss from my trip to Italy a few years back.  Interestingly, we have a lot of gelato places here in Bangkok.  None nearly as good as in Italy, of course, but the tropical fruits do lend themselves nicely to gelato.  One place has a watermelon gelato that's just like biting into a slice of really ripe watermelon.

  • d_ciao

    mmm i want gelato now :)

    @falconfraudless - LOL thanks.  But the photo of the 3 cones isn't mine but what they had on their web site.  I ate mine before I remembered to take a photo.

    @Agent_Spanky - for sure!

    @christao408 - wow... i didn't think watermelon could be made into a gelato.  I would've thought a sorbet.

    @d_ciao - me too... me too!

    oh ahah. i guess you're back and ready to blog another entry then. wb

  • falconfraudless

    it's funny because i just referred your website to someone who's going to be at hawaii.

  • christao408

    @rice_eric - You're right, of course.  My bad.  All their fruit flavors are sorbets.

    @falconfraudless - yep!  finally found the time to get back to Xanga. It's been a tough couple weeks. I might be able to do another end of this week. We'll see.  Thanks for referring my site   I totally recommend doing the drive to Hana if they're on Maui and be sure to make it all the way to 7 pools.

    @christao408 - still very interested!  I've had watermelon products like gum but the real thing is so much better.  I think I'm going there 1-2 years from now. My gf and I have been saving Italy for the special moment.

    I have decided only to eat food in foreign countries.

    But I shall continue to live here.

    side-note: I plugged your Xanga idea about email-to-pulse ('cause I liked it). The most interesting thing to me is not that its collecting "yay" votes, but also "nay" votes. What's to oppose?

    I wonder if plugging an idea is irritating enough that folks will oppose it on principal.

    Who knows.

    Anyway, hope you're okay with me plugging it for you.

  • rice_eric

    @runaheadofme - LOL!  I wish i could just eat sushi in Japan and Thai in Thailand but I couldn't hold out that long.

    Thanks for plugging my Xanga idea.  Yeah, it's odd people oppose it.  Maybe they think if Xanga really took the time to make it they wouldn't have time to make their idea *shrugs*.  Or maybe they think is it's available they HAVE TO use it *shrugs*
