While I was in India, I had to find my food on the weekend so I decided to step out of the apartment compound and this is what I saw:
The yellow vehicles are diesel powered rickshaws. My apartment is close to a pig slaughter house so it doesn't smell so nice.
You'll see cows on the road:
They normally follow the flow of traffic and usually walk on the sides of the road or hang out in the median. At intersections they will usually follow the traffic lights.
Cows find food in the dirtiest places. Don't walk near any pile since people may have urinated in there.
Some homes by my apartment:
Those concrete blocks cover the open sewer running in front of their home. It stinks really bad.
A 5-10 minute walk brought me to this restaurant:
The interior is a sharp contrast to what I saw along the way here:
It's a very small restaurant but clean. The washroom is very small too, resembling something from an airplane.
I ordered grill chicken and naan:
The chicken was grilled very well with a good charcoal taste and covered with sugar for sweetness. This was the first time on the trip I had good food. The naan tasted like something you'd get at any naan you can get at an Indian restaurant in North America.
The complimentary dessert:
Sugar cubes are on the right. I didn't eat any as they re-use this from table to table so it's like the nuts you find at a bar. You never know who had their hands inside.
After my dinner, I really didn't want to leave the air conditioned clean restaurant atmosphere to walk home in the humid putrid smelling neighbourhood that surrounds my corporate apartment. Sadly I had to leave.
Although the food was really good, I got sick a little over an hour of lunch. I did think I'd want to go back again immediately after eating but since I got sick I didn't really want to go back.
Eric Tummy Points: 1.5 out of 5 (I think my standards in India are lower)
