Ruby Tuesday
1226 Old Country Rd.
Westbury, NY 11590
516-228-5176After watching their burgers flash across the TV in their numerous commercials and now having one that was fairly close to work, I just had to give one a try to see if it's really as good as they look.
The outside is nothing special and resembles a number of other chain restaurants like Bennigan's:
I could see a lot of people inside through the window so it can't be that bad.
I sat by the bar but other seating were in booths with very comfortable soft padding. Tables were all in wood. Interior was dimly lit.
The front desk hostesses were fairly slow and not very enthusastic about their job but the waitresses were most positive
I ordered a simple burger made well done:
It's about half a pound. It looks nice.
Here's my burger after a few bites:
Already in the burger are a slice of onion, lettuce, two slices of tomatoes, some mayo orangey sauce, and 2-3 slices of pickles. Not what I'd expect from a better restaurant. It should've been a long slice of pickle instead of the small slices. The hamburger should've been opened with one side with the burger facing up and the other with tomatoes, lettuce, and onion facing up. All sauces should've been in little cups. The Cheers in Boston does it right.
The burger is a pre-made patty so it doesn't taste anything like freshly prepared ground beef. Well done is a bit dry in the center but the outside is good with the charboiled crisp. If I remember correctly, there's one night in the week that Ruby Tuesday offers unlimited fries with their burgers. But don't worry if you don't happen to visit on that day, the fries are super hard and only the sprinkle of Cajun powder makes up for it. The are crispy but so hard.
Overall I was disappointed by the burger. It's not a bad one but the commercials set my expectations fairly high. I wouldn't recommend intentionally coming here for the burgers but they're not that bad and it only costs $6.
