San Soo Kap San
17110 Northern Boulevard
Flushing, NY 11358
718-445-4850So I'm out in Long Island at an outlet mall, it's cold, and I'm hungry. Thankfully I had a data plan on my Nokia E71 smartphone so I pulled it to look up a restaurant that would warm us up. First thing on my mind was Korean BBQ! Unfortunately Yelp.com said there were no Korean BBQ nearby and the closest ones were in Manhatten or Queens. I wasn't up to dealing with traffic and parking issues so I decided to try Queens instead. So we found a place that's rated very high on Yelp.com but having a decent price and this is how we got to San Soo Kap San:
There's no parking for the restaurant which is why they offer valet parking. I'm not comfortable giving the keys of my car to just anyone so I parked on a shady side street. Thankfully my car and the stuff inside were still there when we finished dinner.
A simple interior with some ventilation for the barbeque:

Korean side dishes #2:
Raw beef with an onion and mushroom:
Pork with an onion and mushroom on top:
There's real charcoal in there:
The complimentary egg soup:
Very subtle tasting but the little spicyness makes it a good soup
Beef cooking over the open fire:.
Beef usually turns out pretty well and this time was the same. Marination was just right so it wasn't too sweet and didn't come out flavorless.
Now time for the chicken:
Not marinated too much so the pork turned fairly flavorless. I much prefer the beef. I'd probably avoid pork too.
Mushroom:
This is the first time I've seen the moisture from a mushroom fill up like that. Pretty neat but tasted like any other mushroom.
There's no dessert included and since they didn't cook the onion on the dish i decided to give it a try:
It looks pretty but the onion rings still tasted raw.
Service was decent. They spoke little English but did get our order correct. They cooked a majority of the food for us too. They just didn't carry a smile and all of them looked really unhappy which made me feel uncomfortable eating there. The prices were around $25 per dish and for the amount and quality chicken/beef you get, it's very pricy. It's alright but Yelp.com gave this place a very undeserving score of 4.5 out of 5. The parking situation also sucks. I wouldn't recommend coming here. I'd rather try finding a new place.

I've never had that type of pork at a Korean BBQ (I'm Korean...
and I'm a foodie. Trust me!)
Next time, try the Galbi. The San Soon Gap San in Chicago has
amazing Galbi... perhaps yours does too! :) Good luck next time.
