I used to listen to the radio a lot while I drove to and from work back when I worked in Toronto.  So one of the commercials that caught my attention was from Tucker's Marketplace.  They talked mentioned home book meal and everything made from scratch which all sounds good.  For some reason I always felt like someone had told me that Tucker's is pretty good.  But there was never a Tucker's Marketplace around until I found one a few weeks ago:

The buffet looks a bit like Richtree and that's a good thing:

Very plain seating with wooden chairs:

    The buffet bar:

They offer a salad bar, meat section (roast beef, sausage, ham, and quiche), pasta bar, ice cream fridge, and small dessert bar.

    Sample from the salad bar:

Sample from the various hot food bar:

Most of the meats were dry like the roast beef and chicken.  Pasta was nothing special.

Now, with a sign that says, "Voted by 680 Listeners as favorite #1 Chili", I needed to give the chili a try.

In case you didn't know, 680 is a news radio station in Toronto that's popular for its news at the 1's and traffic at the 10s.

    Chili close up:

It turned out to have way too much pepper.  It was generally sweet and very thick.  I prefer the chili I get from Wendy's.

The best food item in the whole buffet was the cinnamon roll:

The cinnamon roll was moist almost fresh from the oven and had just the right sweetness.  I wish I saved enough stomach to eat more than just one.  They taste like the ones from Cinnabon.

Service was good with one of the most courteous waiter I've ever had at a buffet.  Unfortunately the food was all mediocre at best.  Meats were dry, pasta was bland, and there wasn't a large selection compared to Asian buffets like Wasabi or Mandarin.  For the cost of over $15 per person for lunch, they are very costly considering you can get better food elsewhere and a better selection.  This experience tells me that made from scratch doesn't mean a better buffet.
