Giordano's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
135 E. Lake St.
Chicago, IL 60601
http://www.giordanos.comWhile New York is famous for their thin crusts and fresh white mozarella, Chicago is famous for their deep dish pizzas with just about anything inside. One of the more popular places and one of the first restaurants to server stuffed pizza is Giordano's. It's always important to try a signature dish of the city you're visiting so I had to try out their pizza to see what the hype is all about.
An unassuming restaurant front:
The interior:
A very functional interior that is spacious and bright in some areas but cozy and dimly lit in other areas so you have a good choice setting.
Clam Chowder:
At first glace I was thinking this would be a puddle of clumpy starch . But I was wrong. It was very creamy and full of a mix of potatoes and good sized clams. We gobbled this up very quickly.
Special Stuff Pizza - sausage, onion, mushroom, green peppers:
Our pizza came out pipping hot and we were hungry after waiting almost 30 minutes for it. The cheese was oozing out with fresh mushrooms and onions.
A slice of stuffed pizza:
The tomato sauce was fresh but not as flavorful as Grimaldi's Pizza but it was still good. There was so much cheese and sauce that our pizza usually spilled out when we tried to cut it. The crust along the edge was very hard so we didn't eat too much of it. The rest of the dough is thin and soft. Mushrooms and onions were very fresh. The sausage was small and similar to the type you find at Pizza Pizza or Pizza Hut.
Service was decent - being nice but not very fast as my pop wasn't refilled. My fountain pop was a little watered down. The small pizza costs $19.15 while larger sizes don't cost too much more. Two people couldn't finish one small pizza. I would probably have 3 people to one small pizza next time. It's worth a try but a friend of mine who lives in Chicago said that there's a better pizza restaurant and that Giordano's is for tourists. I forgot the name of the other place but I'll go on my next trip to Chicago.

looks so good :P
i don't like deep dish or thick crust pizzas b/c it's too "dough-y"...all you taste is dough...and too much tomato sauce...
THIN, crispy crust...ah...that's the good stuff.
You made some not so good choices for Chicago food my friend. You ate like a twenty year old on a budget. It's the thirty year ols on a budget places you need to check out next time :) Asl me.
@chotownfoodie - A few places were suggested by my friend who lives in Chicago. I'm going to Chicago this spring, what do you suggest? :)
