http://www.grimaldis.comWhen I was a child I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. What young boy around the age of 10 in 1992 didn't watch it? And in that movie, the ninja turtles lived in the sewers or New York City (NYC) and ate Pizza all the time. So for me, pizza is usually associated to NYC (more so with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but that's not what my blog entry is about). One my previous trips to NYC I didn't try any pizza that really stood out to me but this time a couple New York based coworkers are taking me out to a place famous for their pizza, Grimaldi's:
A cozy interior:
Chopped Salad:
Very fresh vegetables with a light red wine vinagrette.
A simple medium pizza with pepperoni:
Their staple menu item is the pizza. The pizza came out hot. Mozzerella cheese that tops of the pizza was very fresh and solidified quickly. The pepperoni was underwhelming, not freshly made, and resembled more like those you find at the grocery store but still better than those found at Pizza Pizza in Canada. The pizza dough was thin and soft. The mozzerella was the best part and the tomato sauce was the second best part. It was made of fresh tomatoes and not something from a can. The price for a small pizza is $13 which is reasonable.
Tartufo:
A really fancy name for ice cream covered with a thin layer of chocolate. It was good but nothing special for $5.
Juniors Cheesecake:
I hear that Juniors has some of the best cheesecakes in NYC. The cake was very creamy, thick, and tasty. I would highly recommend trying one of these at least once.
The service was good. The pizza was overall good but I would keep to the basic pizza. They don't offer pizza by the slice so remember to come with an appetite. I'd recommend coming here for a visit if you want to try out what NYC pizza is all about.
