  • Piche's New Orleans Style

    Calgary Stampede
    Calgary, AB

The CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) just opened in Toronto this past week and there's sure to have a lot of fast food and midway games.  After being at the Calgary Stampede a month ago, I wanted to write about a few unique foods to carnivals (at least I haven't seen them outside a carnival) before winter comes and all the carnivals disappear.  One of the foods a couple friends highly recommended was the fried oreo.  It seems almost everything gets a test in the fryer just to see if it tastes good - reminds me of people experimenting with chocolate coated everything.  Well anyways, here is the carnival stand I ordered the fried Oreo:

    Fried Oreos in a Bag:

It's 8 for $4.  That's not too bad.  It's definitely more expensive than a bag of Timbits (if you're in Canada) or Munchkin (if you're in the US) or donut holes (for everyone else).  I'm hoping it's good so I don't just toss them out.

    This is what's inside:

The outside is a thin crispy uniform layer with a soft mushy inside.  I really didn't expect the Oreo cookie to become so soft after being in a fryer.  It was so sweet and makes a great dessert.  8 is too much for one person so I would suggest sharing.  If you haven't tried one before I recommend a try.
