San Diego Zoo Raintree Grill
San Diego Zoo
2920 Zoo Dr
San Diego, CA 92101The world's most famous zoo, the San Diego Zoo is a definitely must see location if you visit this lovely city. Of course I had to pay a visit:
They have a huge free parking lot so there's even less of a reason not to go.
Beautiful Flamingos:
Long necked giraffes:
And lazy pandas:
Looking at all those animals can make any person hungry so we dropped by Raintree Grill inside the San Diego Zoo for a quick lunch:
We got here a little late in the day so there wasn't a line up.
The outdoor seating area is great if you're looking for a tan but not great if you're trying to avoid the sun:
There are a few tables with an umbrella, if you're fortunate to get one.
You can get a cute cup with an animal cap:
The drink is over $10 but the perk for ordering this drink is that you get unlimited refills on soft drinks throughout the park. So unlike other cups, like those from Tim Horton's, you won't find one just lying around. They also had a panther, lion, and hyena. Most people chose the panda.
Chicken taquitos
The chicken taquitos were very thin and not freshly made. It was difficult to taste any chicken. The good thing was the guacamole. Lettuce was fresh though. It's worth avoiding this item.
Fish & Chips
Yes, it's a bit weird to order something like this here but I didn't find anything I liked on the menu.
This is what's inside:
I'm glad it's real fish and not some dark grey minced fish stuff. Other than being over fried and a tad thin, the fish and chips was alright.
The prices of the food ranged from $5 to $8 which isn't too bad. At least it wasn't all hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza. The best deal was the drink. They mix the Coke products very well with no diluting. Of course, the added ice melted in the soda and made it a little watery. Although it wasn't healthy to drink soda for the whole day, we did it anyway. The zoo was amazing. Unlike the Toronto Zoo where seeing an animal was unusual, the San Diego Zoo had all their animals out and even the animal's shelter provided at least one good view point for visitors. They had so many animals and you never needed to walk far to see another. I highly recommend coming to the San Diego Zoo and I recommend buying a souvenier cup for unlimited refills!
