New York Fries
Food Courts
Serving a healthy dose of French Fries (or if you prefer, Freedom Fries), New York Fries has survived very challenging times such as the Atkins Diet and the current emphasis on eating healthy without changing their menu (unlike McDonald's and Wendy's who have added salads). You will find a New York Fries In almost any Toronto mall food court but you'll never find a New York Fries as a standalone restaurant. It's very obvious that New York Fries targets the impluse buyers at the mall. That's exactly why I decided to get an order of fries for this review. I'm glad their business strategy is working :)
Their staple food is fries with potato skin:
They also offer hot dogs but they're nothing spectacular and expensive (I had one a long time ago when I was in a rush and every other fast food restaurant in the food court had a huge line up). The fries vary from super crispy (the thin edges) to the soft hot potato (longer fries). I love the soft ones. I've had New York Fries a number of times and it's only good when its fresh so make sure you check out whether fries are being cooked up fresh or waiting under the lights before ordering.
Anyone who's worked at a fast food restaurant know that the largest profit margin is made on fries and fountain drinks. Surprise surprise! New York Fries' main menu are those two items and they charge a premium for their fries compared to all other fast food restaurants. If you're at a mall and feeling like having a snack then a fresh order of fries is a good choice.
So is New York really famous for their fries? I work in New York and I rarely see New York Fries restaurants there. I can say the same about Boston Market and Boston Pizza. I don't recall seeing those two restaurants the few times I've been to Boston. I should start a restaurant chain called Boston Seafood. I like seafood from Boston.
