San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.  It was our first evening at San Diego and we wanted to visit a restaurant that exemplified San Diego, i.e. served seafood, and stood out from the rest.  We went to Bertrand at Mister A's, a restaurant that features one of the most spectacular views in San Diego:

    A dimly lit interior:

    Complimentary bread:

I was surprised it wasn't whipped butter but the hard one.  It was creamy and rich but I prefer soft butter so it's easier to spread.  The bread wasn't very fresh but still soft.

    Squash puree:

This was a great sauce for dipping the bread in.  It's a rich bowl of soup that is a nice thickness and texture.  It's a pricy bowl of soup for $11.

Maine Lobster Strudel - lobster and assorted mushrooms in filo dough with cognac lobster sauce:

Almost like a spring roll but more fancy.  The crab meat was dry.  The sauce was creamy and gave the strudel a richer taste.  This was the more pricey appetizers on the menu at $19.

Oven Roasted Wild Local Sea Bass  - morel mushrooms sauce, european white asparagus:

I didn't like any of the sauces on my dish.   The sea bass was more stringy than chilean sea bass since it was a wild kind.  The bacon was shaped in a circle, very crispy, but it wasn't oil or burnt.  $33.50

Sauteed Diver Scallops and Tempura Style Slipper Lobster - black truffle butter, braised young leeks and pesto basmati rice:

A good variety of tastes from the soft moist sea bass to the bouncy lobster tail in tempura batter.  The tempura wasn't like tempura shrimp at Japanese restaurants but more like a fluffy light breading.  This dish was a lot better than my sea bass and isn't much different in price at $39.50.

Rated as one of the best restaurants with a view:

We took a lot of pictures while we waited for a table.  The view of the harbor and the San Diego airport is amazing and worth coming to see.  The service was disappointing for a high end restaurant.  We were only attended to for ordering then it was close to no service.  The food wasn't extraordinary.  I would only come to this restaurant for the view.
