Champions Long Island
Long Island Marriott Hotel & Conference Center
101 James Doolittle Boulevard
Uniondale, New York 11553Located inside Long Island's largest Marriott, Champions is destined to have business by default from visits by guests staying at the hotel or people who are at the hotel for a conference. It's also convenient that the hotel sits right beside the Nassau Memorial Coliseum that recently hosted a Bruce Springsteen concert. So with all the factors playing in favor of Champions, did they take advantage of this and serve mediocre food and provide bareable service?
A bar like interior. They had a number of large screen TVs on the otherside but it's not shown in my photo:
I ordered the Firecracker Shrimp and Pasta:
This was surprisingly food with crisp fried onions and shrimps. The linguine was well made and the sauce was flavorful without it being too salty. Service on this occasion was not really great as my server was emotionless and didn't refill my iced tea.
There is a full restaurant beside Champions called Prime Seasons that serves local seafood and steaks. When Prime Seasons is closed, their menu is served at Champions. I ordered a roast duck:
It's cooked very well inside:
It does feel a bit odd eating duck in a sports bar but I already had burger and fries the night before so I wanted something different. The duck was roasted well with no parts red yet it didn't turn out dry. Service was better on this occasion with an attentive waitress.
Champions' food is pretty good and on par with other sports bars I've been to. It's ability to serve Prime Season's menu is surprising and no worst than eating from Prime Season itself. Although the staff is fairly unattentive, it is a sports bar so that is to be expected since most patrons would be fixated on the TV. There are no less than 6 large screens along with smaller side screens so you'll find the game you're looking for at this bar. If you're staying at this hotel, Champions isn't a second rate bar and it's worth eating at.
