Asakusa Kannon Temple
Nakamise
AsakusaWith more than 50 shops offering local specialty foods and the usual array of tourist souvenirs, it was hard to pass up visiting another tourist location in Asakusa. We're already passed the half way mark of our trip so it was time to find some nice souvenirs to bring back home.
Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) - the outer gate of the Sensoji and symbol of Asakusa:
Nakamise Street was really busy with people at every turn:
There were huge line ups in popular food outlets:
Deep fried manju (soft cake):
Manju was amazing. Hot crunchy outside with just the right amount of outside dough. A warm chewy soft inside of different paste. You can get red bean, lotus seed, green bean, or sesame seed paste filling. There was a really long line up for these and I wish we got more. They should definitely sell these at Pacific Mall in Toronto.
The manju was really that good and definitely worth coming back to Nakamise for them. Most of the souveniers didn't stand out from things you can get at Pacific Mall so we came out fairly empty handed.
