There are a lot of people in Japan and there isn't much land so population density is high especially in a big city like Tokyo.  One best example of the crowdness of Tokyo is Shibuya Crossing.  It is known as one of the busiest intersection in the world with pedesterians walking in any direction while cars are all stopped.  This intersection is featured in a number of movies such as Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (the scene where Sean Boswell, the main character, drifts his red Lancer Evolution through a busy intersection with the crowd parted to the sides).

I am at Shibuya Crossing living out the movie.  The quiet before the chaos:

You can see the drawn paths on the ground to suggest the pedestrian walk way.

There are so many people crossing at the same time in any direction:

No one sticks to the drawn paths since there are just too many people.

Here is a higher view point of the intersection:

Japanese people are polite so you'll see that most people in the drawn paths.

We took that picture overlooking Shibuya Crossing at Cheese Cake Cafe:

The interior is tight and full of people, usually couples.  Smoking is permitted so the cafe is cloudy with smoke.  Thankfully we were surrounded by people who were not smoking.

One of my friends ordered this drink.  Maybe someone can tell me what it is:

    Manhatten Cheesecake:

The cheesecade was tasteless but the handmade whipped cream was a nice touch.

    Baked cheesecake:

I was hoping something close to what I had at Cafe Ginza Miyukikan but I was let down.  The cheesecake was room temperature and dry.

Each cake was around $4 which is a great price considering the view you get of Shibuya Crossing.  The place was busy with teenagers and most people smoke so it's not a place I wanted to stay too long.  Service was nice but almost non-existant as they didn't come by often.  A positive point to that is they never came to push people out of the cafe even if we had already finished our order.  The washroom is tight and only 1 stall for each gender is available.  They don't have impressive cheesecakes so I wouldn't come here for a cheesecake.
