Japan is the land of sushi and you'll find a sushi restaurant at almost every corner.  After visiting the fish market's Sushi Dai, I was having high hopes for all sushi restaurants in Japan.  So here I am at the top of a shopping mall (for some reason, most food courts and restaurants in Japanese malls are on the top floors) looking for something appetizing to eat.  I've had enough of ramen for a while so I'm going to try out sushi.

A cozy modern interior with bamboo to bring you back to nature.

    Tofu crab soup:

Underneath the soup is a layer of tofu.  Surprisingly it had real shreds of crab.  The bowl is really small and the shallow spoon (on the left) makes it a challenge to eat/drink.

    Seared salmon:

The salmon looks really good but didn't taste as fresh or tender as you'd imagine.  On my whole trip to Japan, salmon wasn't a good fish to have here.

    Sashimi bowl:

A great presentation but under all that is a lot of rice.  The sashimi wasn't fresh tasting and resembled what you'd get in Toronto.

    Sushi combo:

It's sashimi on rice so it's not much better than the Sashimi bowl.  The rolls had minced tuna.  Minced tuna is really bad tasting.  It was room temperature and tasted like a paste.  This combo was around $22.

After having super fresh sushi at Sushi Dai, I was hoping most sushi restaurants would be at least close tasting.  I was very wrong.  If you're on a trip to Japan, I recommend skipping this restaurant and saving your money for some better food.
