Otowasan Kiyomizudera Temple
Kyoto, Japan
With its numerous temples, shrines, palaces, gardens and traditional architecture, Kyoto is the cultural centre of Japan. Spend a couple hours here and you'll feel like you were transported back to the mid 16th century. But you'll be distracted from that thought with the sea of tourist on weekends.
Here you will find people dressed in typical maiko dress, hair ornaments, and nape make-up:
The narrow streets up to the Kiyomizudera:
One of the most famous temples is the Otowasan Kiyomizudera:
The scenery is beautiful. If you pay the 30 Yen entrance to the temple, you will get to see the very famous view:
The street leading up to the temple is lined with gift shops and quick food. We decided on a snack and happened to see a pastry/ice cream shop:
It got really busy after we walked in. They were really pushing that pastry in the poster behind the lady so we got that.
It's a light, slightly chewy pastry with mushy ice cream.
I was a bit disappointed with the pastry. It wasn't as fresh as I'd hoped and they had a hole in the pastry to squeeze the ice cream inside upon your order. All my earlier meals were on the sweet side and having a not so sweet dessert was odd feeling. The ice cream wasn't cold either but it was creamy, resembling the texture of guacamole.

Whoa, those shoes in picture one looks dangerous. It would suck to trip in them.

i love kyoto!
haha, I agree with the 1st post about the ice cream looking like lotion!
about your comment about Pheonix Restaurant - yea, I wouldn't really make a return visit since I live a lot closer to many better HK-style cafes, but I guess its a okay choice for ppl who live near there are feel that there's isn't really a close, convenient alternative. Oh, any suggestions on good HK-style baked tomato sauce rice dishes in the GTA?
