Air Canada International to Japan - Economy Class Cabin
Flight: AC0001 from Toronto, Canada (YYZ) to Narita, Japan (NAR)
Plane: Airbus A340
Carrier: Air Canada
http://www.aircanada.comWith all the flying I've been doing for work, I've finally been able to use my Aeroplan points on a flight to Japan with my sister and her friends. I have a 12 hour flight with a 14 hour time change to look forward to. With no AC power on the plane, I didn't have anything that could entertain me for the flight except a book or magazine. I guess I'll be looking forward to a few hours of shut eye.
Airbus A340-300 (detailed layout):
This type of plane was part of Air Canada's inventory since 1995 so the cabin is dated with no AC plugs or personal entertainment system as found on Air Canada's Boeing 777.
Snack designed to appeal to kids:
Pop it open and you have unhealthy fried crackers:
They're flavorful and salty. Makes your hands dirty just like Doritos.
There were two choices for lunch excluding the vegetarian meal.
Lunch 1 - chicken with risotto and bowl of carrot slaw:
This was the more popular choice of the two and it was rightly so with tender well done chicken and saucy risotto.
Lunch 2 - Beef with tofu and bowl of carrot slaw:
This was fairly tasteless with beef that's merged into a whole clump. The bread included with both meals was dry and bad. You could crush the bread and it would slowly return to its original shape.
A few minutes after lunch, we were served a sandwich:
That is really nice packaging. Must be a Japanese styled thing.
Inside the box is a sandwich, cookie, and apples:
The bread had all its crust removed. Sandwich was fresh with ham and cheese. The apples were soaked in a light lemon juice to prevent them from browning. The cookie was asian style and sweet.
Noodles came right after the sandwich:
At this point I'm really full and we're around 50% of the flight.
With the movie playing and the cabin darkened, most of the crew is sleeping.
There were two choices for dinner excluding the vegetarian meal.
Dinner 1- Salmon with a bowl of fruits:
This was the more plain choice of the two and featured a teriyaki sauced salmon. It was well done and not too dry.
Dinner 2 - Teriyaki Beef with a bowl of fruits:
The beef was very saucy with teriyaki and lies on a thin bed of egg noodles followed by rice. The included bread for both meals the same as lunch and dry.
The meals aren't amazing as even the cup of noodle could be considered the best meal of the flight. The number of meals on the flight was impressive compared to my drink service only 3 hour flights to Texas. Most of the meals had an Asian twist which was nice. The flight attendants were helpful and all very nice.
