http://www.patobriens.com / http://www.patobriens.com.mxWhen you're in Cancun, Mexico, you don't need to worry about submitting yourself to Tex Mex food everyday. A number of American restaurants have set up shop in Cancun. There's even a bus that says Walmart on its destination banner. If you're travelling between the hotels along the coast and downtown Cancun then you've probably seen a number of brightly lit restaurants and one of them is Pat O'Brien's:
A friend had suggested we try this restaurant so we ignored the odd mixture of decorations to give it a try.
A super burry interior pic:
I think you can get the idea it's a bar at the left, tacky decorations (the white bags hanging from the ceiling are just for Halloween), and a bright TV in the center.
Shrimp and Chicken Kabob:
Chicken was a bit dry. There were only 3 pieces of shrimp and 2 pieces of chicken. It was a very light meal. Vegetables were steamed and flavorless. Rice was lightly flavored... I wish it had sauce because the whole dish was dry.
Hawaiian Chicken - Chicken breast marinated in teriyaki sauce and grilled, topped with a pineapple ring:
Hawaiian Chicken taken apart:
Very saucy dry chicken. Vegetables are steamed and lack flavoring. Mash potato is flavorless as well (You can guess what I was planning to compare it to)
Pat O'Brien's is really a bar and not really nice restaurant. That tacky exterior decoration extends into the interior with cheap wooden chairs and tables. The music was loud and most were from the 80's. If you're in Cancun for your honeymoon, I would suggest staying away from this restaurant/bar. The food was mediocre. At least I didn't get sick. On the contrary, the drinks were pretty good. We ordered one of their signature drinks (looks like that big glass in the first picture) and a pina colada. I wouldn't come here again and I don't suggest coming here.
