http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/cunjw-jw-marriott-cancun-resort-and-spa/We were planning to spend out weekend in San Diego but a large wild fire threatened much of the city and parts of Los Angeles was started the Sunday before our flight. Most of the attractions in San Diego were closed - specifically the Legoland California that I was so looking forward to visiting. Our flights were booked on American Airlines and they allowing fliers to change the date of their flights except that it had fly out before November 1. It was the 26th of October and I couldn't fly out next week because I had work. Only after talking to the manager did they let me change the destination and even backdated the charge so the ticket would be charged as though we had booked on our original ticket's date. Now we had to figure out where to go.
The east coast was raining, the west coast was on fire, Hawaii was too far, so we thought of Cancun and forecasts say it was going to be sunny or cloudy. So we made our flight change on the morning of our flight... it was truly flying by the seat of my pants.
That evening we arrived at Cancun and took the hotel affiliated shuttle service to the hotel. I definity recommend pre-arranging a shuttle as it's safer.
The 5-star JW Marriott Cancun:
Being a Platnium Elite member at Marriott, I had a choice of packages when I checked in. I selected the cheese and fruits from the list:
From the foreground and clockwise:
camembertbrie, fig (haha thanks to soggy_fries for telling me what it was), cheddar, strawberry, bread sticks, blue cheese, mozzarella, crackers. The cheeses were very soft and simply amazing. It renewed my love of cheeses all over again. I just wished I had a bottle of red wine. The platnium list only had Corona, Coke, and water as beverage choices. For more information about cheeses you can refer to Dairy Food for Life - Types of Cheese.
If the cheeses didn't bring enough of a smile, the view from the hotel room balcony definitely did:
With the beautiful clear water and super long beach with fine coarse sand, Cancun was looking to be an amazing weekend.

The view looks stunning!
camembert and brie look exactly the same to me but I think one has a higher fat content
@Laika: oh very true, they do look very similar. I did a bit of searching and found this article: http://www.thenibble.com/reviews/main/cheese/cheese2/whey/brie-camembert.asp
Apparently they are generally made the same way. One observable difference is "Brie is made in larger wheels" so it loses moisture and ages a bit more quickly so it concentrates its flavour.
thanks for the recommendation. the pic got me salivating! you really know your food! too bad they don't sell maytag here in thailand =(
btw, i think camembert gets the most shelf space in french supermarkets. at least in paris anyway. brie tastes so much better though. what's your fave cheese?
those cheese look delicious. Cheese became my snack after I came to London. of course, chocolate is the best snack in Europe, but cheese is also excellent... bon vivant, you should try it... haha, thank you for your common.
