Texas State Fair
3921 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
Dallas, TX 75210Have you been to the fair or, if you're from Toronto, the CNE? If you have then you're familar with all the carnival games like hitting bottles to win a prize and the various food vendors where everything seems to be fried. If not then you should go visit one in your city and experience the crowds, lights, and excitment.
With an established restaurant you have the security that it's probably been there for a while or will be there tomorrow so you can't get that sick from it. You don't have that guarantee so food vendors are regulated and rarely serve risky items like fresh pork or chicken. What you can get is anything fried so at the Texas State Fair you can find fried guacamole and fried Coke alongside the traditional french fries.
Since the Texas State Fair works on a ticket system where you need to purchase tickets (2 for $1) to redeem at rides and food stations, we had some left at the end of the night and needed a way to use it. With our tummies thinking we decided to dessert and a traditional dessert of a fair is the funnel cake!
Here the average cost of a funny cake is 12 tickets ($6) but we had a bit more tickets so we went with a funnel cake with everything on it for 16 tickets ($8):
Funnel Cake with the Works:
You have apple cinnamon, whip cream, strawberry syrup, nuts, and chocolate syrups. The funnel cake was freshly fried right before our order came in. The batter wasn't too good so it hardened quickly. It was super sweet with all the syrup. I don't recommend getting everything.
It's all unhealthy food and you wouldn't usually go to a fair to enjoy the food. I had a smoked turkey leg earlier in the evening and got sick from it so I'm glad I didn't get sick from the funnel cake. Eat at your own risk.
