http://www.congeewong.comIf you're Chinese and live in Toronto then it's very likely you've been to a Congee Wong. They are one of the most popular congee restaurants in Toronto as they provide a fairly clean and bright interior along with well priced fairly good tasting food. But let me show it to you:
That bright fairly clean interior I was talking about:
Pork Liver Congee:
There was actually more congee in the bowl but we ate a bit before I realized I had to take a picture. The amount is not up to the rim but imagine 50% of the exposed bowl was covered. The congee is not too water and not too thick. Rice has been cooked for a long time so it's soft and drinkable. There wasn't much pork liver so you'll have to ration that. They ran out of fish so we couldn't get the fish and pork liver congee. At $7 it's alright... very filling like a baked potato.
Rice Noodle with Beef:
Just look at that coat of shiny oil. This is one of those Chinese dishes that you can't have too often. I don't know if they put MSG in there but I'm not too thirsty after eating it. The beef was tasty, strong, and not too chewy. I look for that "strong" part just to see if the meat is reused or freshly cooked. Peppers were crispy. Sauce was thick as usual so it probably has starch mixed in to give it that substance.
Most plates are priced at $7 and can easily fill one large person. The food all came out hot and tasty. It might not be the healthiest food out there but it's good value and it's long lines for lunch and dinner on weekends validate that. I was a bit sick when I came so congee is really for those occasions.

Beef with Rice Noodles in Black Bean Sauce is a dish I like. Man, you really like liver congee don't you?
