  • American Airlines Domestic Business Class

    http://www.aa.com

I frequently travel to and from Toronto to meet with clients so part of my life is spent onboard a plane.  The great plus is no rush hour traffic to contend with.  But going through customs and security more than makes up for that.  My usual flight is 3 hours so it's below American Airline's minimum flight time required for a complimentary meal to be served.  Many airlines in North America use 4 hours as the minimum.  If you're seated in business class then a meal is included.  Many of us dislike the airline meals so I'll be writing about my experience on an American Airlines meal in this blog entry.  Meals and service from other airlines and flights will vary.

Upon seating, the flight attendant with help hang your jacket and ask if you want a drink with a choice from the usual non-alcholic selection.  After everyone has been seated they provided us roasted nuts that were actually warm.

For my meal, I was given the choice of garden salad or caesar for the salad and salmon, chicken, or pasta for the main dish.  A table cloth was provided and meals were placed on top of the cloth and not in a plastic tray.  They asked us again what we wanted to drink and this time we can choose an alcoholic drink.

The salad was still crispy but, as you can see, there really isn't much variety of vegetables in the garden salad.  I don't recall having a choice with the salad dressing.  I had chosen salmon for my main dish and I forget what that circular piece is in my salmon dish.  I just remember it didn't taste too bad.  Salmon was overcooked and dry.  The beans were very soft and mushy.  I like my beans like that but not everyone does.

After our meal we were served warm oven baked chocolate cookies.  They're not the best cookies in the world but they're oven warm!  I think that was the best tasting part of the entire meal.  If only they had more than one for me.

I wouldn't upgrade to business class for their meals.  Do it for the larger seats, extra service, and the dedicated washroom just for business class.  This was probably typical of most North American airlines but I hear Asian airlines provide a much better selection of food and taste a lot better.  I wonder if the rumours are true.
