We're on the beaches of South Padre Island and I have a sudden urge for seafood.  One of the places people recommend in this area is Scampi's.  It took us almost 45 minutes, 3 circles around the area, and 3 times asking people for directions until we found it.  It's situated along a very small street off the main street of South Padre Island.

    An unassuming exterior:

A simple interior with large metal framed chairs:

A great view of the Aransas Bay:

The view of Scampi's from the waterside:

    Bread:

Really soft sourdough and we were hungry so it disappeared quickly.

    Appetizer assortment for two:

From the left and moving clockwise we have crab-stuffed shrimp, salmon quesadilas, beef kabobs, mini-lobster filo burrito, oysters rockefeller, and in the center we have the gator loins.  As exotic sounding as the gator loins, they were the most forgetable part of the dish and tasted more like popcorn chicken from KFC.  Salmon quesadila had very little salmon and only a bit of cheese.  It was mainly the bread.  The most amazing was the crispy mini-lobster filo burrito.  The pastry was so light and crisp that it reminded me of the best croissant I've ever had.  However, there wasn't much lobster in it but I can forgive that.  Beef kabobs were made well and cooked medium rare.

    Shrimp Marco Antonio:

Sauteed jumbo shrimp with apples, mando, and coconut milk.  Cous-cous was not great so we didn't finish that.  The shrimps were very crispy and the sauce was tasty yet not overwelming and complemented the shrimp well.

Each dish was around $25 USD which is fairly pricey considering the restaurant is not very fancy and the dishes were average quality.  I think it's the view we're paying for.  I would say it's worth a visit (even if it took us so long to find it) and definitely give the lobster filo burrito a try if you come.  Be sure to make it for the romantic sunset:
