http://www.kabukirestaurant.caIn Toronto you will find great dining locations in any place. Kabuki is a Japanese restaurant locationed inside the Bayview Village shopping centre. If you've been to Yorkdale, Scarborough Town Centre, Markview, or Fairview then you will be familar with the lackluster quality of food present.
The seats in Kabuki are soft and comfortable:

The small narrow seating area makes Kabuki not an ideal place for a large group of people.
Salad included with bento boxes:

Probably catering to the more health conscious client, the usual salad sauce does not have mayo. Instead it's a sweet orange tasting sauce.
Chicken Bento Box:

Not sure if it was a decision based on a focus on health, the normal sodium and MSG filled teriyaki sauce has been replaced with a brown gravy over the chicken. Unlike most bento boxes, the rolls included are all cucumber and not a mix of salmon/cucumber. The amount of tempura vegetables was surprisingly good and it includes two shrimps over the usual one.
Salmon and Alaskan Rolls

Great tight rolls. Salmon was very fresh and not frozen stiff.
A scoop of green tea ice cream to complete our dinner:

The usual green tea ice cream you get from every other Japanese restaurant. I recall just 5 years ago that the quality of green tea ice cream varied greatly from one restaurant to another. Some were uneditable and tasted like styrofoam.
The prices are a bit higher than most other Japanese restaurants in Toronto by about $0.25 per roll and about $3 for the bento box. Unusual for a Japanese restaurant, hot tea is an additional $0.50 per person. The quality of the food makes up for the higher price. You can probably find a restaurant just as good as Kabuki for a lower price but it's still worth a visit. I recommend coming if you're in the area.

orange-ginger dressing on salads is pretty normal for most "japanese" (i.e. korean-owned or chinese-owned japanese-ish food) restaurants nowadays .. the brown sauce is probably "chicken korean" sauce ..
i'm pretty unimpressed by the food court at bayview village -- none of the restos really offer good value or particularly mindblowing food ..
at least i think so! :P
