"Did you Know?" of the Week

Have you ever wondered why Coca-Cola, or more commonly called "Coke", tastes differently from place to place?
We're not talking about from restaurant to restaurant as most of us know that they mix their own Coke from the syrup they receive. I'm talking about the differences between countries, provinces, or states.
One company makes the Coke syrup and another bottles it
is NOT
The Coca-Cola Company only makes the Coke syrup and sells it to various bottlers who hold a francise agreement. It works the same way as McDonald's where the frozen foods are purchased from McDonald's and each restaurant prepares it on their own.
One of the largest bottlers is Coca-Cola Enterprises. It was formed by the purchase of various bottlers in 1986. Each bottler is incharge of mixing the syrup with filtered water and sweeteners (sugar or artifical) and bottling them to create the drink you find at the grocery store. As of this writing, Coca-Cola Company owns about 35% of Coca-Cola Enterprises stock but Coca-Cola Enterprises is still operated independently (except, of course, for it's reliance on Coca-Cola Company's syrup.
Since not all Coke are bottled by the same company, especially when you think globally, it's possible for one Coke to taste fairly different than another Coke based on the additives beyond the standard syrup or the proportion of syrup used.
Did you know that?
