Oliver & Bonacini Cafe and Grill
On special occasions I tend to go to special places for dinner. This occasion was my mom's birthday. Special in this case is something non-Chinese and not a chain restaurant like Swiss Chalet. We brought her to Oliver & Bonacini Cafe and Grill in Bayview Village at Bayview and Sheppard:
It's a very casual environment.
The inside is very spacious and nicely decorated.
I ordered the Sesame Seared Yellowfin Tuna prepared rare:
My dinner was very light. The tuna is nicely prepared. Slightly tougher than sushi grade fish but not tough compared to well done tuna. I'm not fond of tuna so I wouldn't recommend this dish. The green mango salad was very enjoyable. Sweet, crispy, and with the right amount of sauce were the words in my mind when I had it. The salad was better than the fish.
My sis ordered the 10oz grilled New York Steak:
It's ugly and it didn't come close to the taste of a New York steak from The Keg.
My mom ordered the signature thai red curry:
Very light dish but my mom found it a good portion size.
My dad ordered the roasted rack of lamb:
Another light dish. Lamb was cooked very well and tender. No taste of smell of lamb (a taste some of my friends and family described as sock-like).
Overall I found the dish sizes to be on the light side. Dish presentation was good except for the steak, which looked like meatloaf. Unless you found a dish you really enjoy, I would not recommend coming here for dinner.
