Akasaka Japanese Restaurant
It's no question that there are a lot of Japanese restaurants in Toronto and the surrounding area. You have New Generation, Ichiban, Sushi on 7, Tako Sushi, Crazy Sushi, T&T (LOL it's my convenient and cheap source of sushi rolls), and many more. But it's hard finding one that is really good and worth going to. Well here's trying out another new place!

Akasaka, located at West Beaver Creek and Highway 7, is a Japanese restaurant partly owned by a George Brown teacher. So right from the get go I'm expecting it'll be at least decent. Inside is much like how Ichiban used to look like. No renovations at all so expect it to look a bit dated.

We went for lunch and I ordered the $12 Maki Set while my mom got a $10 Tempura and Beef Ribs Set.
They both come with a nice light salad. I was a bit underwelmed by the quantity but it was a nice sauce.
The miso soup came in a thick squarish cup so it was hard to drink from and it didn't cool quickly.
The Tempura and Beef Ribs set came with some cooked salmon rolls but I forgot to take a picture of them. They tasted alright. Nothing remarkable.
The main courses quickly followed. My Maki Set includes a Dynamite Hand Roll, Spicy Salmon rolls, and California Rolls (I asked them to add spicy mayo):

The rolls were SOO good. They just melt in your mouth once they touch your tongue. I love the spicy orange mayo they used. I prefer it much more than the chili sauce some other restaurants use. The salmon was very soft and tasted very fresh. None of the rice tasted hard and the rolls were quite soft themselves so the rolls tasted like they were freshly made.
The Tempura and Beef Ribs arrived at the same time:

As you can see there isn't much beef ribs and not as much tempura compared to other Japanese restaurants. Good thing my mom doesn't have a crazy huge appetite.
The quality of the tempura more than makes up for the quantity. The tempura is so fresh and doesn't taste like reused frying oil. I had the same tempura in my spicy salmon rolls so I was impressed. The beef ribs were just like any other restaurant's so don't bother with the beef ribs if you come here.
Overall, I would say that this is the better Japanese restaurants I've been to lately. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're sick of the usual low quality rolls from other Japanese places. But remember to bring money cuz it's a bit more pricy than other places.
